In 2 ABY, Imperial Grand Admiral Mitth'raw'nuruodo, core name "Thrawn," tested Niriz's loyalty to him during a skirmish against the Ebruchi pirates. After the defeat of the Ebruchi forces, Imperial Commander Voss Parck told Niriz that Thrawn trusted him, remarking that the captain was a member of a proud Core World family. Eventually, Niriz became a member of Thrawn's Empire of the Hand.
