Around 382 BBY, EX-5A worked as part of a Pathfinder team. He was riding in the back of the Witherbloom with Ambar when an starship appeared out of hyperspace right in front of them. After the ship crashed on a nearby planet, the droid fled the wreckage with the rest of the team. He assisted Ambar in attending to the injured Jedi Master Xinith Tarl. Ex-Five went with the team when they investigated the wreckage of the other ship. Sula Badani decided to spilt up so they could check out both pieces of the wreck and Ex-Five accompanied her. They got closer to the ship and the droid suggested they climb over it looking for an entrance. The group found an open airlock and entered the wreck. They settled down in a cargo bay and EX-5A stayed with Pako and Ambar while Badani went to explore the ship. The group heard suspicious sounds and EX-5A suggest to Pako that they look into it but the pilot said they had to keep watch over the rest of the party.
Badani returned and explained the creature on the outside of the hull was affecting the Jedi's ability to act and they had to move. Ambar and Pako came up with a plan to electrify the hull to drive off the creature. Paki asked EX-5A if he could lead him to the engine room and the droid reminded Pako of the hostile Path of the Open Hand members roaming the ship. The group decided to move to another cargo bay further away from the creature. When they arrived, EX-5A asked Pako about the large gemstones littering the floor of the bay. The two left to make their way to the engine room. Pako questioned why he volunteered for the mission and EX-5A told him that he was the best person for the job. The duo were attacked by a group of Path members. Ex-Five searched for a way around the ambush. He suggested to go outside but was denied by Pako. The droid then discovered access tunnels that could be used to go around the Path members. As they fled, Pako was able to shoot one of the Path members. EX-5A inquired if that would dissuade the Path members from following them and Pako responded it would likely just make them angrier. Once in the engine room, the droid assisted Pako in rerouting the manifold expressor to get residual charge from the latency circuits.
Returning to the cargo hold, EX-5A met up with the rest of the survivors. When Pako suggested overloading the engines to create an explosion to kill the creature, the droid called it a hairbrained idea. The group decided to proceed with the plan and Ex-Five accompanied Pako, Badani, and the Path members to the engine room. Unable to access the engine to disable the safety protocols, Shalish suggested using the droid to power the system. Ex-Five was nervous, but Pako assured him that nothing bad would happen to the droid.
EX-5A waited with Pako for the power to be restored to the engine. Once Coron Solstus was able to connect the two parts of the wreckage, the engine came back on-line. EX-5A questioned if they should start the overload. Pako disconnected the droid from the engine and told him to go back to the cargo bay. He asked Pako if he would be right behind him and the pilot assured him that he would. Ex-Five fled the wreckage with the rest of survivors.
