An engine binder was a carbon-binded engine support frame used in podracers.
Vek Drow gave Qui-Gon Jinn an engine binder after Qui-Gon rescued him from a group trying to rob his store. Qui-Gon was then able to trade the engine binder for a mass coupler or a servo control system, which were both needed to fix Anakin Skywalker's podracer.
Qui-Gon could also obtain the engine binder by killing Vek Drow and stealing it from him.
