Foundry of the Confederacy

Description

The Foundry of the Confederacy was a region located within the Slice portion of the regions known as the Mid Rim Territories and Outer Rim Territories. Controlled by the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars, the Foundry served as the location of several of the confederate government's factory worlds and industrial facilities, such as the branded "Triad of Evil" planets Felucia and Saleucami of the Suolriep and Thanium sectors, as well as the worlds of Boz Pity and Metalorn. Furthermore, spanned through by the Perlemian Trade Route and Talcene Transit hyperspace routes, the Mid Rim world of Kashyyyk was situated on the doorstep of the Foundry along a junction of several hyperspace routes.

In 21 BBY, during the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and Confederacy of Independent Systems, the planet Saleucami served as the site of an engagement between Republic forces and a Separatist fleet commanded by the Kaleesh Separatist General Grievous. However, despite the planet's seeming restoration of peace following the battle's end, the Confederacy's military commanders returned to Saleucami and realized its usefulness to their construction efforts. As a result, the confederate government transformed Saleucami into a trans-shipment point for produced war materiel from the Foundry of the Confederacy, in addition to the planet's close proximity to the secure regional Salin Corridor hyperspace route, which the Confederacy utilized for the movement of its convoys as contestations increased along the Perlemian Trade Route.

Later, during the Outer Rim Sieges in the final year of the war, which saw the Separatist Alliance pushed to the brink, the Grand Army of the Republic's 12th Sector Army had taken aim on the worlds located within the Foundry. However, despite the Confederacy and its economies being pressed near to collapse, Head of State Count Dooku and Supreme Martial Commander of the Separatist Droid Armies General Grievous launched a surprise assault on the Republic capital world of Coruscant in order to kidnap Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine. The attack, however, failed and resulted in Dooku's death as well as Grievous's retreat into the Outer Rim, but the war had still not reached its end as Mid Rim planet Kashyyyk was attacked by the confederate government, which was situated at a point of strategic value, sitting on the doorstep to the Foundry at a junction of several hyperspace routes. That location alone was enough to make Kashyyyk an attractive target, but the Separatists also sought to control the Claatuvac Guild's data vault in Kachirho. Nevertheless, the Confederacy lost the battle for the Wookiee homeworld.
