The GX-8 moisture vaporator was a device manufactured by Pretormin Environmental Corporation to condense and filter water vapor from the air. The device then turned this moisture into liquid water, which made the vaporators essential in planets where natural-occurring water was undrinkable or absent. When optimally positioned at 250 meters from one another, each device could collect 1.5 liters (1.5 quarts) of water from the air per day, even when the relative humidity was only 1.5 percent. They could further be combined with a storage hopper where the chemicals were condensed even further to fill other farming needs.
The GX-8 was commonly used on the desert planet of Tatooine, where many units were joined together over a vast area to create a moisture farm. GX-8 condensers were also used by Galen Erso and his family during their self-imposed exile on Lah'mu to collect drinkable water, as the planet's mineral content affected its hydrosphere and made groundwater unpleasant to drink.
