IM-S-653 Orbital Garrison

The IM-S-653 orbital garrison, also known as The Hexostar, represented a recent series of Imperial garrisons designed by Rothana Heavy Engineering for objectives specifically related to planetary orbits. These garrisons possessed the ability to locate and neutralize any target, whether situated on the surface or in space.

Characteristics

A Hexostar consisted of two standard garrisons joined together at their bases. Despite being marketed as the most economical option, this configuration saw infrequent deployment. These garrisons were exclusively stationed in orbits surrounding planets characterized by extreme hostility and danger. This arrangement furnished ground troops with an orbital firebase while simultaneously enhancing the security of the headquarters. Orbiting Garrisons were capable of accommodating a complete TIE wing along with several orbital tugships. Given the absence of engines on the garrisons, the tugs served as the sole means of movement.

Nevertheless, the deployment of orbiting garrisons ignited a dispute with the Navy, which asserted its authority over all units stationed in space. Ultimately, the command of orbiting garrisons was divided between the Navy and the Army, with one base under the command of an Admiral and the other under a Major General. Furthermore, the Navy initiated the production of a new orbital defense platform.

Moreover, according to Wedge Antilles, the leader of Rogue Squadron, who had recently returned with his team from Ootoola, the hexostar exhibited a vulnerability around the equators, which served as a crucial weak point for the garrison.
