Incinerator troopers, also referred to as Incinerator Stormtroopers, incinerator soldiers, or Burners, were a stormtrooper variant within the Galactic Empire. At least one went on to serve in an Imperial remnant after the Empire's demise and was deployed to the planet Nevarro during a skirmish there in 9 ABY.
Incinerator troopers, also known as the Incinerator Stormtroopers, more simply as the Incinerators, or colloquially as the Burners were a class of stormtrooper within the Imperial Stormtrooper Corps which wielded powerful flamethrower weaponry. The troopers received intense fire combat training and were regarded as one of the most devastating of the Corps' specialized contingents, setting enemies and their fortifications ablaze with their flamethrower equipment.
Stormtroopers of this class were equipped with standard issue stormtrooper armor with red markings, a red pauldron, and a D-72w Oppressor flame projector with a backpack. Their armor had a coat, which allowed the troopers to withstand abnormal temperatures they received.
The incinerator trooper class served in the Empire's Stormtrooper Corps. Highly acclaimed, it was a role that the stormtrooper Riccarn claimed fellow trooper FS-451 had wanted to specialized in. After the Empire fell in 5 ABY, at least one of the variant served in an Imperial remnant led by Moff Gideon. One was deployed on the planet Nevarro in 9 ABY during a battle with the a crew which included the Mandalorian Din Djarin, Bounty Hunters' Guild magistrate Greef Karga, ex-rebel shock trooper Cara Dune, the IG-series assassin droid IG-11, and Gideon's target, the Force-sensitive infant Grogu.
After Gideon's forces forced their enemy back into a cantina, Gideon ordered his incinerator trooper to "burn them out." In the initial onslaught, the incinerator trooper managed to burn through the door of the cantina, setting much of the interior and exterior on fire in the process. The stormtrooper then stepped inside where they activated their flamethrower once more, directly at the group led by Djarin, but Grogu used the Force to stop the flames and direct them back at the stormtrooper, causing their weapon to explode and kill them, blasting their burned and lifeless corpse outside the cantina.
During his time covertly serving the Corporate Sector Authority, future First Order Allegiant General Enric Pryde, who was its High Colonel, noted that the Incinerator troopers could've beaten the insurgents faster than the amount of days the Authority's CSA troopers could handle.
Several years later, First Order Flametroopers formed as a legacy of the Imperial Incinerator Troopers.
The incinerator trooper was first pictured in canon a special look reel for the Disney+ television show The Mandalorian, and was identified as the Incinerator Stormtrooper in a Star Wars: The Black Series toy by Hasbro Inc.. The trooper then appeared in "Chapter 8: Redemption" of The Mandalorians first season, which was directed by Taika Waititi and aired on December 27, 2019.
"Imperial Troops," an issue of De Agostini's Star Wars Encyclopedia series released on September 2 2020, identified the troopers by simply incinerators, while "The Witness," an installment of the 2020 short story collection From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back written by Adam Christopher, established the nickname Burners for the troopers. The incinerators originated from the Star Wars Legends continuity, where they appeared in the 2008 video game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed video game.
