Jeyell

Jeyell was a Mid Rim Territories planet located in the Near Perlemian area that was taken over by the Rebel Alliance during its failed Mid Rim Offensive and then evacuated when the Galactic Empire made a counterpush in 2 ABY. After rumors were leaked of a high-ranking rebel heading toward the Near Perlemian in 4 ABY, the Cynabar's InfoNet news report listed Jeyell and three other worlds as possible locations of rebel activity. The Imperial II-class Star Destroyer Overseer fought and defeated several EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigates at Jeyell by 4 ABY.

During the Galactic Civil War between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance, the Imperial-controlled Jeyell was taken over by Alliance forces during the Alliance's Mid Rim Offensive, which began around 1 ABY. However, in 2 ABY, Imperial pushback led to the collapse of the Alliance's campaign, necessitating the withdrawal of Alliance troops to better fortified holdings. Jeyell and five other worlds—Charros IV, Durkteel, Ord Tiddell, Pothor, and Trasse—were set to be evacuated, with the Empire being expected to retake those worlds in short time.

General Carlist Rieekan made a classified document summarizing the situation for the Alliance Commander-in-Chief Mon Mothma, mentioning Jeyell and the other five worlds. Rieekan added that a few local revolutionaries were set to evacuate with the Alliance, with others being set to stay behind and harass the Empire. The archivist Hendri Underholt eventually acquired the document and included it in The Rebel Files, an archive of non-electronic documents.

Rumors and distinctions

In 4 ABY, Underholt traveled as a decoy of Mothma to Durkteel—a mission that was meant to draw the Empire's attention away from the Alliance's preparations to attack the Empire's second Death Star superweapon. After the Alliance leaked rumors of a trip toward the Near Perlemian by a high-ranking rebel leader, the Cynabar's InfoNet news channel released a report that listed Jeyell, Durkteel, Ord Tiddell, and Trasse as possible locations for the establishment of a new rebel headquarters or a rebel summit. Underholt collected the news report for The Rebel Files, but they were killed shortly after when the Empire bombarded their position on Durkteel.

By 4 ABY, the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer Overseer was outnumbered by several EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigates at Jeyell. Despite the odds, the Overseer destroyed its opponents at what became known as the Battle of Jeyell. The battle, along with an engagement at Pothor, earned the Star Destroyer a measure of distinction. The Overseer saw a complete inspection and overhaul after the two battles.

Behind the scenes

Jeyell was introduced into the current Star Wars canon via the 2017 reference book and boxed set Star Wars: The Rebel Files, written by Daniel Wallace. The planet Jeyell originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, being first mentioned in "Galaxywide NewsNets," a segment of the May 1995 sixth issue of West End Games' Star Wars Adventure Journal. The segment was authored by Paul Sudlow.
