Kitel Phard

Description

Kitel Phard was an astronomical object located in the regions known as the Core Worlds and the Interior, in the grid square J-12 of the Standard Galactic Grid. The hyperspace route known as the Giju Run linked it to the celestial body Deymasoll. Kitel Phard shared its name with the Kitel Phard dynasty. During the reign of the Galactic Empire, the latter was associated with a style of expensive vases.

History

Long before the armed conflict between the First Order and the Resistance, Kitel Phard was governed by rulers known as Atrisian Emperors, who shared their name with the celestial body Atrisia. By the time of that conflict, Supreme Leader Snoke of the First Order utilized the Elite Praetorian Guard, a personal bodyguard unit of mysterious origins. The Praetorian Guard's name—as well as that of the group's earlier incarnation, the Imperial Praetorian Guard that was active around 9 ABY—dated back to the reign of the 14th Atrisian Emperor of Kitel Phard. In 34 ABY, several screens aboard Chandrila Star Line's Star Cruiser Halcyon displayed a partial map of the galaxy that indicated Kitel Phard's position.

Behind the scenes

The name "Kitel Phard" originated in Star Wars Legends' Imperial Sourcebook.

The name "Kitel Phard" originated in Star Wars Legends' Imperial Sourcebook.

Kitel Phard was first mentioned in the current Star Wars canon on a galactic map in the 2016 StarWars.com article "Where in the Galaxy Are the Worlds of Star Wars: The Force Awakens?." Kitel Phard's first in-universe appearance came in the form of being depicted on a map viewable in Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, an immersive roleplaying experience at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida that opened to the public on March 1, 2022.

In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the first mention of "Kitel Phard" was in the Imperial Sourcebook, a 1989 supplement written by Greg Gorden for West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. However, the book did not definitively establish that "Kitel Phard" also referred to an astronomical object instead of just the Kitel Phard Dynasty. That was finally done by Timothy O'Brien in his August 1997 article, "From the Files of Corellia Antilles," which was published in the Star Wars Adventure Journals fourteenth issue. In addition, the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry established that "Kitel Phard" was an alternate name for Atrisia, a planet also introduced in the Imperial Sourcebook. Atrisia has since been reintroduced in the current canon, but the connection between it and Kitel Phard has not been clarified.
