The Lost Twenty, also known as the The Lost, was a name given to the group of twenty Jedi Masters who left the Jedi Order throughout its history. According to Yula Braylon of the Jedi High Council, the Lost Twenty became disillusioned with the Jedi way of life. Among its ranks, Count Dooku was seduced by the dark side of the Force and consequently became a Lord of the Sith.

The Lost Twenty was a group of twenty Jedi Masters who renounced their allegiance to the Jedi Order at various times in its history. Every member of the Lost Twenty had forsaken the Order after becoming disillusioned about its principles, indeed the Order's very way of life, according to Jedi Master Yula Braylon, who served on the Jedi High Council.
Jedi Master Trennis left the Order in what Grand Master Yoda recalled to be a sad event. During the late era of the Galactic Republic, Jedi Master Dooku turned his back on the Order. He left before the death of his former Padawan, Qui-Gon Jinn, at the Battle of Naboo in 32 BBY. Following the duel in the Works which saw the death of Jedi Master Yaddle, Dooku embraced the dark side, and he adopted the name of Darth Tyranus upon becoming the Sith apprentice of Darth Sidious—the reigning Dark Lord of the Sith during the final years of the Republic. Publicly, he retained his former identity while serving as the face of a secessionist movement, and reclaimed his birthright as the Count of Serenno.
By 22 BBY, in the final days leading to the Clone Wars, the group was commemorated by the Jedi Order through a series of sculptural portrait heads, one for each member of the Lost Twenty. The busts were located in the Archives of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.

The Lost Twenty were originally introduced in a deleted scene of the 2002 Star Wars film Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones. In the scene, likewise titled "The Lost Twenty," the Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi, while searching through the Jedi Archives, observed the bust of Dooku alongside the librarian Jocasta Nu. The pair discussed Dooku's departure from the Order and his recent resurfacing as the leader of the Separatist Movement.
References to the Lost Twenty were made in various products of the Star Wars Legends brand, but they were not reintroduced into the Star Wars canon until the release of the 2015 reference book Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know, in which the question "Who are the Lost Twenty?" is answered.
