In the Mandalorian culture, families were referred to as clans. Each clan was organized under a particular "house," or political faction. For example, members of Clan Wren were allied with House Vizsla. Other clans included Clan Awaud, Clan Eldar, Clan Kryze, Clan Rook, Clan Saxon, and Clan Vizsla. The Tribe was a clan, with Clan Mudhorn growing out of it. Members of the Mandalorian Guard were recruited from every clan.
The structure of Mandalorian society was first explicitly described by Dave Filoni, former supervising director of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV series and executive producer on the following series Star Wars Rebels. Following the release of the Rebels episode "The Protector of Concord Dawn," Filoni explained that the Mandalorian society is pyramidal: it has a ruler, big factions known as houses, and familial units (clans) allied with said houses.
