The mee fish could also be found on the Outer Rim planet Koboh and on Sakavi Tar, where they had a different temperament. The mee on Koboh were deceptive fish that were daring predators. These fish used their hundreds of small, razor-like teeth to tear apart the small fish they consumed. This presented an additional danger to sentient beings, since the mee would often draw blood with their teeth. In 9 BBY, Sakavian fisherman Skoova Stev caught a mee fish in Prospector's Folly on Koboh, which he subsequently put in the aquarium in the nearby Pyloon's Saloon.
Mee first appeared in the film Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. They were first identified in the Star Wars: Legends reference book Star Wars: Episode I The Visual Dictionary. They were confirmed to be canon in the reference book Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know.
Mee, along with fellow scalefish doo, ray, faa, see, laa, and tee, appear to be a reference to the real-world musical scale; i.e, "Do, Re, Me, Fa, So, La, Ti, Do."
