Mersel Kebir

Following the Battle of Rendili, the Mersel Kebir joined the Republic Navy with the rest of the Rendili fleet.

The ship's name is a reference to the real-world Mers-el-Kébir, a Mediterranean naval port that served as the base for the Vichy French navy after the Fall of France during World War II. The UK Royal Navy launched Operation Catapult with the same aim as the Republic's mission to Rendili - to secure the French fleet either by taking them into Allied service or destroying them to deny their use to the Axis. Unlike the Republic's efforts at Rendili, however, the Royal Navy had no Jedi to fall back on when negotiations broke down, and the RN attacked and bombarded the fleet to ensure its battleships could not be used by German forces.
