N1-ZX

N1-ZX, nicknamed "Nunzix," was a BX-series droid commando who served in the Resistance's spy network during their conflict with the First Order. Nunzix was working on the Outer Rim world Kaddak where he acquired information about the First Order, including the location of Supreme Leader Snoke. Nunzix had a strong self-preservation programming that made it impossible for him to fight. This programming led him to view others as expendable.

After being rescued by Poe Dameron, BB-8, and C-3PO, N1-ZX and his rescuers were pursued by the First Order Security Bureau Agent Terex and his Ranc Gang to an uncharted desert planet. Nunzix refused to fight due to his programming. Poe however overrode his programming with the help of a droid personality template provided by the starfighter pilot Temmin Wexley. In his final moments, Nunzix became "Mister Bones" and killed several Ranc gangsters before being disintegrated by Terex himself.

Undercover on Kaddak

N1-ZX was a BX-series droid commando who was a member of the Resistance's droid spy network during the Cold War in 34 ABY. He was programmed with a self preservation mechanism to protect the information he collected as a spy. N1-ZX was stationed on the planet Kaddak and reported to the protocol droid C-3PO, who served as General Leia Organa's spymaster. Prior to the Mission to Kaddak, N1-ZX managed to send a transmission to the Resistance base on D'Qar that it had acquired a large trove of information about the First Order including the location of Supreme Leader Snoke. In response, Organa dispatched Poe Dameron, C-3PO, BB-8, and the Abednedo technician Oddy Muva to recover N1-ZX.

Later, N1-ZX was captured by the Ranc Gang, who wanted to sell the droid. Before this could happen, Dameron and C-3PO managed to force their way into the Ranc Gang's headquarters and freed N1-ZX by activating a sleeper cell of spy droids. Nunzix expressed little gratitude to his rescuers and chided them for taking too long. Despite C-3PO's orders, N1-ZX also refused to release his information on Snoke until they had left Kaddak. C-3PO explained that N1-ZX's self-preservation programming was deeply embedded into his processors. When Dameron proposed giving Nunzix a "robo-lobotomy", N1-ZX dared him to while C-3PO explained that doing so would result in a complete memory wipe. Dameron decided to take N1-ZX back to the ship, prompting Nunzix to reply that his name was "Nunzix."

Pursued by Terex

Before they could leave, Terex flew over Kaddak in his ship Carrion Spike and called on the local gangsters to seize Poe. After reaching Dameron's freighter, N1-ZX dismissed the freighter and chided Dameron for a "terrible rescue." To mislead their pursuers, Dameron instead arranged for them to escape in his T-70 X-wing starfighter Black One. The starfighters S-foils were modified to house droids. While traveling through hyperspace, Dameron got C-3PO to reactivate Nunzix. Dameron confronted N1-ZX and expressed his suspicion that Terex had provided him with disinformation to lead the Resistance into a trap. When N1-ZX asked what made him say that, Terex's ship Carrion Spike and a fleet of Uglies emerged from hyperspace. Following a brief dogfight, Dameron's starfighter was hit by laser fire and crash-landed on the surfaced of a desert world.

Nunzix lost his right arm during the crash but managed to flee with Dameron and C-3PO inside a cave. When N1-ZX asked if Dameron had a plan, Dameron replied they were going deeper but Nunzix countered it was a direction. Dameron responded that it was the start of the plan and told him to stay here if he did not like it. BB-8 later tried to delay Terex and his Ranc Gang but fell from his perch. When Dameron and C-3PO expressed alarm, Nunzix brusquely remarked that they were still here and that they would not want the "little guy's" sacrifice to be in vain. Dameron responded that he was the "worst" and Nunzix taunted back that he had the information about Snoke.

When Dameron voiced his suspicion it was a trap, N1-ZX countered that maybe the information had been used to lure Dameron here. He then told Dameron to move on, calling him "meat." Ultimately, C-3PO decided to stay behind in an attempt to delay Terex and his men by summoning fjor-bats. As the Ranc Gang closed in on them, Dameron tried to convince Nunzix to fight. However, N1-ZX responded that his combat programming had been trumped by the self-preservation software that C-3PO had installed in him. Nunzix responded that he was not putting himself at risk as long as Dameron was still alive to defend him.

Frustrated with Nunzix' recalcitrance, Dameron raised his blaster and asked why he was still keeping him around. Nunzix taunted back that firing his blaster would give their position away. Shortly later, Dameron was contacted via comlink by his friend Temmin Wexley, who informed him that Black Squadron had arrived to rescue them. As the gangsters approached their hiding place, Dameron asked him to fight but Nunzix countered that the Ranc Gang only wanted Dameron dead while he could surrender to live another day.

Final stand and legacy

Dameron told Wexley about his predicament with Nunzix. After learning that Nunzix was a commando droid, Wexley transmitted a droid personality template of his old B1-series battle droid Mister Bones to Dameron's comlink. Dameron placed the comlink on N1-ZX's transponder. Nunzix protested but the personality template overrode his previous programming. N1-ZX became "Mister Bones" and attacked the Ranc Gang, slaughtering several of the gangsters. Despite killing all of Terex's henchman, "Mister Bones" was shot and then beheaded by Terex, who confronted Dameron. Despite his disintegration, Dameron managed to defeat Terex in physical combat with the help of BB-8 while Black Squadron wiped out Terex's fleet and Muva rescued Terex's slaves. Following the battle, Terex was taken into custody by the First Order Commander Malarus, who was displeased with his unsanctioned mission against the Resistance.

Nunzix after being overridden with Mister Bones' programming.

N1-ZX or "Nunzix" was a BX-series droid commando. As a spy droid, he was modified by C-3PO to include a strong self-preservation programming. This programming made Nunzix concerned with protecting himself to the extent that he was unwilling to put his existence into danger. The droid called himself Nunzix and had a low opinion of the human Poe Dameron, referring to him a "meat." Nunzix took pride in the fact that he had gathered valuable information on the First Order including the location of Supreme Leader Snoke. He refused to release the information until he had returned to the safety of the Resistance base on D'Qar.

Nunzix had a grumpy and sarcastic outlook in life. As a commando droid, N1-ZX was fitted with a transponder that enabled his programming to be rewritten by a droid personality template. After he was reprogrammed as "Mister Bones", N1-ZX ceased to exist. As Mister Bones, N1-ZX's chassis was able to kill several Ranc gangsters by using his severed right arm as a weapon. However, he was outmatched and disintegrated by Terex.
