Nam'ta

Description

Nam'ta was a gas giant, with clouds that formed bands of red, orange, and white coloration. The gas giant was located in the Nam'ta system of the Atrivis sector, part of the Outer Rim Territories. It was located on the Relgim Run, a hyperlane that traversed the Atrivis sector after branching off the Braxant Run. Nam'ta was bracketed on the hyperlane by the Markbee's Star system on its Coreward side and the Horuz system on its Rimward side.

History

Nam'ta was inhabited and had its own government by the time of the Galactic War between the Galactic Republic and the resurgent Sith Empire. Around 3643 BBY, an independent organization that was based on the planet claimed that it had received thousands of Republic diplomatic holorecords and was planning to release the information contained within to the HoloNet.

An individual affiliated with the Republic visited Nam'ta at that time and convinced the local government to repress the organization.

Thousands of years later, during the Galactic Civil War, Nam'ta was located within the territory of the Pentastar Alignment, controlled by Grand Moff Ardus Kaine.

Notable appearances

Nam'ta was created for the 1998 PC game Star Wars: Rebellion and was notable in that it was the only planet original to the game. All other planets in the game had appeared elsewhere in the Expanded Universe. This, combined with the proliferation of spelling mistakes in the game, makes it possible that the world was intended to be Namra, a gas giant in the Bacrana system. Star Wars: Rebellion uses a generic image to represent Nam'ta; this image also represents Annaj, Bespin, and Engira in the game. Within the Star Wars: Rebellion in-game encyclopedia entry for Nam'ta, the Atrivis sector is mistakenly spelled as "Artivis."

Nam'ta was later mentioned in Star Wars: The Old Republic, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by BioWare and released in 2011. The game's situation on the planet was used as a possible location for Republic-aligned players to assign one of their companions on individual quests.

Star Wars: Rebellion cartography

Star Wars: Rebellion provides hyperspace travel times between each planet in the game. However, in several instances these times are significantly longer than other canonical sources, which seems to reflect the Rebellion hyperspace times as game mechanics rather than actual figures. Nam'ta's intra-sector hyperspace times and distance from Coruscant according to Rebellion using the game's fastest capital ship hyperdrives are as follows. Note that this chart only includes planets canonically located in the Anoat sector, excepting Coruscant.
