New Plympto was a terrestrial astronomical object located within the Core Worlds.
By 2 BBY, New Plympto served as a safe world for an organized rebellion against the Galactic Empire, secretly led by Senator Mon Mothma. A galactic map made for Mothma that year noted that fact, covering the rebellion's safe worlds, starfighter hubs at level five or higher, operations headquarters, shadow planets, and deep space caches. Mothma officialized the rebellion as the Rebel Alliance later the same year. The Alliance had a package installed at a HoloNet network satellite located near New Plympto.
In 0 BBY, a high-priority encrypted Imperial communique was relayed via the satellite near New Plympto and thus intercepted by the rebel package. The communication was from Imperial General Hurst Romodi to Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin, in which the general reported on data leakage regarding the Empire's DS-1 Death Star Mobile Battle Station and urged the grand moff to take action against political and military opposition immediately. Rebel Colonel Haxen Delto had the message decrypted and passed along to General Airen Cracken, who reported the findings to Mothma from near New Plympto in an official document.
That document, as well as the map of the rebellion locations, was included by archivist Hendri Underholt in an archive of non-electronic documents known as The Rebel Files. New Plympto was also eventually mentioned in an entry of an artist's journal that covered the Nosaurian species. The journal was later restored, expanded, and displayed in the Graf Archive at some point no earlier than 34 ABY.
New Plympto was the homeworld of the Nosaurians, a naturally bad-tempered sentient species that were known for the long horns on their heads. One Nosaurian from New Plympto was Clegg Holdfast, who went on to become a journalist and podracer pilot.
New Plympto was first mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in the 2015 reference book Ultimate Star Wars. In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the planet New Plympto was first mentioned in the 2000 reference book Inside the Worlds of Star Wars: Episode I, which was written by Kristin Lund. It was first pictured on a galaxy map included in the fifth issue of Wizards of the Coast's Star Wars Gamer magazine, released on July 24, 2001. New Plympto first appeared in the seventy-ninth issue of the Star Wars: Republic comic series, written by Welles Hartley, illustrated by Douglas Wheatley, and published by Dark Horse Comics on November 9, 2005.
