Noori

Description

Noori was a terrestrial planet in the Noori system of the Expansion Region's Noori sector, located within the southeast quadrant of the galaxy. The area overlapped with the Slice, a wedge of space between the hyperlanes of Perlemian Trade Route and Corellian Run. The planet was capable of supporting life.

The part of the galaxy that contained Noori was charted by scouts of the expanding Galactic Republic during the Great Manifest Period. Beginning in 20,000 BBY, the period marked the start of the Slice's extensive colonization. By the last millennium of the Republic, virtually all of the inhabitable planets in the Slice had been populated for thousands of years. Toward the end of the New Sith Wars, between 1004 BBY and 1000 BBY, the surroundings of Noori were unaligned space, with neither the Sith nor the Jedi and the Republic having a firm hold of the area. By 137 ABY, Noori was within the territory of Dark Lord Darth Krayt's Galactic Empire.

Inhabitants

Noori was the homeworld of the Noorians, a species of sentient humanoids who were distinguishable from Humans by their striped eyes. Jedi Master Tahl, born in 92 BBY, was a native of the planet, though she left it early in life to be trained at the Jedi Temple of the Republic capital of Coruscant.

Behind the scenes

Noori was first mentioned in The Defenders of the Dead, the fifth installment in the Jedi Apprentice series. Published in 1999, the young reader novel was written by Jude Watson and contains the only in-universe reference to the planet thus far. Noori has since been mentioned in the "Tahl" entry of the 2008 reference book The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia.

In 2009, the Noori system was included in the appendix of The Essential Atlas, a third-generation Essential Guide by Jason Fry and Daniel Wallace that focuses on the astrography of the Star Wars universe. Though the planet Noori is not placed within the eponymous system in either The Defenders of the Dead or The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, Fry has stated that "planets not assigned a system in [a] published source can be assumed to reside in [the] system of [the] same name." The Essential Atlas placed the Noori system in the Expansion Region at the grid coordinates O-10. The same information was included in the Online Appendix of the Atlas Online Companion at StarWars.com. In a September 2012 update to the Online Appendix, the Noori system was also given a sector placement within the Noori sector.
