Pamorjal was the fourth planet in the Pamorjal system and orbited the star Garbat. It was covered in jungle and had many swamps and lakes, although not much open water. A barren area known as the was located in the southern hemisphere.
Thousands of years before the Galactic Civil War, a Dark Jedi a group of Jedi on Pamorjal, using a dark side artifact known as the Soulsaber, creating the Badlands. The Jedi eventually defeated their adversary and the surviving Jedi Masters left with the Soulsaber, to hide it somewhere. The surviving Jedi Knights remained on Pamorjal and constructed the Temples of Vormijj, in which they put a map to the Soulsaber's hiding place.
Pamorjal had no other significant contact with the wider galaxy until about twenty years before the Galactic Civil War and it became under the control of the Galactic Empire. It was ruled by Imperial Governor Taj Vellion, although he left most of the day to day running to the . The wood from Garna trees, a species indigenous to Pamorjal, became popular in the Core Worlds, so mega-corporations such as TaggeCo began harvesting the trees. An underground movement called the Pamorjal Freeman's League, or PFL, which opposed the mega-corporations and began attacking their assets on the planet, to try and force them out.
In 3 ABY, the Dark Jedi Thaum Rystra came to Pamorjal to discover the location of the Soulsaber. A group of Rebel Alliance agents were pursuing him and when the arrived on the planet, they were attacked at the Temples of Vormijj by the PFL, who had been convinced by Rystra that the Alliance agents posed a threat to them.
