Petition of 2,000

The Petition of 2,000 was a document signed by the entirety of the senators in the Delegation of 2,000, formally protesting Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine's actions during the Clone Wars, and requesting that he cede the emergency powers he had claimed back to the Galactic Senate following the conclusion of the war, which the delegation demanded should end with a cease-fire negotiated with the Confederacy of Independent Systems to stop the bloodshed. By stopping the war, the delegation hoped Palpatine would lack any excuses to continue altering the Galactic Constitution.

Behind the scenes

The Petition of 2,000 was made canon with a mention of it in Meena Tills's old Encyclopedia entry on StarWars.com. The Petition of 2,000 first appeared in Matthew Stover's novelization of the 2005 film Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. The scene in which the Petition of 2,000 was proposed was deleted from the film's final cut.
