Delegation of 2,000

The Delegation of 2,000 was a group of concerned senators in the Galactic Senate, many of whom were part of the Loyalist Committee. These two thousand individuals were concerned by the way in which Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine, who was secretly the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious, had waged the Clone Wars, along with his accumulation of executive powers and changes to the Galactic Constitution. During the Cantham House meetings, the group created the Petition of 2,000. The petition formally protested Palpatine's actions and demanded he return to the Senate the emergency powers he had claimed following the conclusion of the war, which the delegation wanted to end by establishing a cease-fire.

The petition also demanded the abrogation of the Sector Governance Decree. During one of the house meetings, one month before the end of the Republic Era, Amidala made it clear ending the war was a vital part of the petition because it robbed Palpatine of his excuse to create amendments. The day after the formation of the Empire, Imperial Intelligence arrested sixty-three senators on charges of conspiracy and treason, several of whom were part of the Delegation of 2,000.

Behind the scenes

The Delegation of 2,000 appeared in deleted scenes of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. These scenes were also featured in the film's novelization, which depicted Padmé Amidala as a key member of the group. The group was made canon when it was mentioned in Meena Tills' Databank entry.
