Ron Cobb (September 21, 1937 – September 21, 2020) was a conceptual artist who worked on creature design for A New Hope. Several of his notable creations appear in the Mos Eisley cantina sequence including the Gotals and Ithorians.
A number of his designs, while cut from the films themselves, have been resurrected and used throughout the Expanded Universe. The most notable of which were the Revwiens, which themselves were the inspiration behind the Parwans.
He also designed an as-yet-unnamed alien that was later included in a commercial for the limited release Kellogg's C-3PO's cereal.
One of his designs, the long-necked Ithorian, lead to his name being used for that of an Ithorian Jedi Master - Roron Corobb - in the Star Wars: Clone Wars animated series.
