The Sith Wars (c. 5000 BBY–1032 BBY) were a series of conflicts, including the Great Hyperspace War, Great Sith Wars, Great Sith War and the Jedi-Sith War, that were fought for control of the galaxy.
Around 3650 BBY, the Chiss species become involved in the wars of the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire. The Chiss Ascendancy encountered a number of aliens before retreating to their borders around 3450 BBY.
Cervil the Uncanny, a Jedi who fought in the conflict, left behind testimonies about members of the Jedi Order using lightwhips in order to defend against Forbidden Forms used by the Sith. The Forbidden District located on the planet Exegol housed derelict shipyard forges that dated back to the Sith Wars. Vurk Jedi Master Harli Cogra's book Chronicles of the Jedi, written in the weeks following the destruction of Starlight Beacon in 230 BBY made mention of the ancient wars between the Jedi and Sith.
The Sith Wars were first mentioned in the new Star Wars canon in the 2016 reference book Nexus of Power.
In Star Wars Legends, the Sith Wars were first mentioned, albeit indirectly, in the 2004 Obsidian Entertainment video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. The struggle first appeared in the 2009 webcomic The Old Republic, Threat of Peace Act 1: Treaty of Coruscant, and was first identified in the 2012 reference book The Essential Guide to Warfare, written by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart.
