Cervil the Uncanny, a Jedi combatant in the Sith Wars, is known for her documented experiences with lightwhips. These testimonies detailed the use of the flexible-bladed lightsaber variant as a defensive measure against Sith Lords employing the Forbidden Forms. During the High Republic Era, specifically in 232 BBY, Jedi Knight Vernestra Rwoh investigated historical Jedi applications of lightwhips, a time when the Sith were presumed to be no more. She discovered Cervil's accounts. Subsequently, Rwoh referenced these accounts to Padawan Imri Cantaros to demonstrate the historical precedent within the Jedi Order for lightwhip usage, justifying its inclusion as a mode in her personal lightsaber.
The initial reference to Cervil the Uncanny appeared in The High Republic: A Test of Courage, a junior novel released in 2021. Justina Ireland authored the novel as a contribution to Phase I of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia initiative.
