In 1 BBY, a three-pilot Rebel flight group from Red Squadron launched a feint into the Circaprous system to probe the system's Imperial defenses. Near Circarpous IV, three groups of three TIE/LN starfighter pilots from Alpha, Beta, and Gamma Squadrons engaged the Rebel pilots. Despite being outnumbered three-to-one, the T-65 X-wing starfighter pilots destroyed all nine TIEs with no losses of their own.
The Rebels' success in the face of unfavourable odds left an impression on the people of the Circarpous system.
The engagement was later simulated as a training mission by the Rebel Alliance, intended to teach prospective pilots how to face a numerically superior enemy. Agamarian Rebel Keyan Farlander was assigned to the simulation by training officer Wex Dafid prior to Farlander's recruitment into the Alliance flagship Independences Red Squadron.
The battle first appeared in the 1993 video game Star Wars: X-Wing as the fourth X-wing historical mission, "Beat The Odds."
