The Star Wars Immunization PSA, which is also known as Parents of Earth, was a public service announcement concerning childhood immunization that was launched in 1977. It consisted of a television commercial and a poster that were created and disseminated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a part of the then-named U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. Anthony Daniels, playing C-3PO, and Kenny Baker, portraying R2-D2, were the stars of the video.
Within the commercial, the droids directly addressed the "parents of Earth," emphasizing how crucial it is to get immunized against childhood illnesses such as whooping cough, measles, and polio. They made it clear that these diseases could potentially lead to more serious conditions like pneumonia, brain damage, or even death. The poster displayed a photo of the characters, accompanied by the question, "Parents of Earth, are your children fully immunized?" Below the image, the text continued with, "Make sure—call your doctor or health department today. And may the Force be with you."
