An alien obelisk existed on the astronomical object Syned One, located in the the Outer Rim Territories' Syned system. Every six hundred years, the alignment of the stars would make the alien obelisk reveal strange inscriptions on its surface. By 3643 BBY, the phenomenon took place again.
Around that year, an individual associated with one of the two opposing governments in the Cold War between the Galactic Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire sent a companion of theirs to observe the inscriptions on the obelisk be revealed. The companion deciphered a map from the obelisk that led them to a strange discovery.
The obelisk was mentioned in BioWare's 2011 video game Star Wars: The Old Republic within the Crew Skill Mission "The Syned Conjuction," though the information regarding the mission's outcome was later removed from the game.
