The transpeeder was a type of landspeeder built by the vehicle manufacturer Baktoid Armor Workshop. The model was cheap to produce and had a simple design, consisting of a chair for a single pilot mounted onto a repulsorlift engine to provide it with propulsion. It was two meters long and could reach speeds of up to 270 km/h. The transpeeder was armed at its front with two small fire-linked light laser cannons, though in some variants one cannon was replaced with a fragmentation grenade launcher. It had capacity for up to five kilograms of cargo and could not accommodate any passengers. A new transpeeder was priced at 10,000 credits, while a used model typically sold for 7,000 credits.
Designed for military use, the transpeeder was intended to improve the combat effectiveness of an individual soldier. The vehicle also saw civilian application and transpeeders were sold to big-game hunters, bounty hunters and planetary security forces.
The transpeeder entered production during latter years of the Galactic Republic and never gained significant popularity with Republic military leaders. Most transpeeders in military service were eventually superseded by the Single Trooper Aerial Vehicle, another model of single-person aerial vehicle manufactured by Baktoid.
The transpeeder was mentioned in the Arms & Equipment Guide, a 2002 Wizards of the Coast roleplaying sourcebook that was written by Jeff Grubb and Owen K.C. Stephens.
