It was a seismically-active planet covered in lava plains where the Galactic Empire inflicted great damage on the Rebel Alliance, although at the cost of many S-1 FireHawke Heavy Repulsortanks.
This disaster befell the Imperials because General Maltaz allowed the two battalions of tanks to be cut off from their supply lines by counterattacking Rebel forces — known as the Hitak Harriers — based in the volcanic Hitak mountains. Maltaz ordered the tanks to stand their ground, and all but three tanks were lost before TIE Fighters arrived, bombarding the Rebel landing field, killing many Rebels and destroying much of their equipment.
After the loss of so many tanks on Turak IV, Ubrikkian Industries dramatically decreased their production of the new Imperial Repulsortank 1-H.
The Essential Atlas mistakenly places the Turak system in R-4.
