Talk: Valiran

Welcome, Valiran!

E-11

Hello Valiran. Nearly missed your message in the comment of your revert. It would have been safer to leave a message on my talk page. To the point: yes, you need to references each and every paragraph, and yes it's not explicitly stated in the policy. A reference is enough for a whole paragraph (as long it's not written using multiple sources, of course), but it's attribution authority is limited to said paragraph, so even if two paragraphs, one after the other, use the same source, you have to use a reference each time. That way, no editor will wonder if it's unsourced. Jumping to my second objection: formatting. You should make bigger paragraphs. One liner are frowned upon, especially.

To resume: not everything is written in policy, and some is interpretative, but when in doubt, watch how experienced editors work, and look at status pages (like Featured articles), as they are some of the best articles Wookieepedia has to offer. For example, this show you that all paragraphs must be sourced, even if five paragraphs use consecutively the same source. And don't assume that because something is in an article (like a lack of references), it's not a mistake. The wook is 15 years old, and its policies and their enforcement (NB: limited by the efforts of dedicated editors and administrators) only improved with time, so it's quite common to find errors. This can be a bit confusing when debuting, but as you gain more experience, you'll gain a better understanding of everything.

You seems to be a determined new editor, so I'm sorry if my revert was "brutal", just understand that time is something we all lack here (while I write this, I still have 500 recent edits to patrol, before doing my own things, for example), and we expect people to deal with their own mistakes, but that don't means we won't help when asked for. I trust you'll review and edit the page accordingly to what I told you. --NanoLuuke 11:42, April 9, 2020 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the explanation, it definitely clarifies things for me. I agree that one-sentence paragraphs are undesirable, and I was trying to make the entire article's description flow more naturally from one thing to the next instead of jumping around a lot. I'll try to fix them and add more references when I get the time. I also think that all of the editing guidelines and policies should be written down so that new/inexperienced editors like myself can catch up to veterans like you more easily.--Valiran () 19:48, April 11, 2020 (UTC)

DC-series

Please provide a source that mentions the existance of the DC-series blasters. Currently, as far I know, there's no connection of a series of blasters that confirms this they only share the name DC.--DarthRuiz30 (talk) 20:25, April 15, 2020 (UTC)

  • They were all weapons developed by BlasTech for the GAR's use, many of them sharing the name DC-15 or DC-17 (and one DC-19). Their shared design history, introduction during the Clone Wars, and use as the GAR's standard weapons lead me to believe that they deserved their own sub-category. Please note that I am not including the various blasters from The Old Republic with DC in their name, just the ones used by the GAR.--Valiran () 23:51, April 17, 2020 (UTC)

Please, stop

Hello, I've noticed that you continuously add the DC-series category to the blasters starting with DC. Please refrain from adding the category after I've deleted it, it's not a blaster series in either continuities. If you do continue after they're removed, an administrator may give you a warning in the near future. If you could kindly stop, it would be appreciated. Cheers! --Erebus Chronus (talk) 20:25, April 15, 2020 (UTC)

  • As I explained to DarthRuiz30 above, I thought that the GAR's DC-15/17/19 blasters deserved their own sub-category due to the circumstances of their creation, or maybe a navigation template like the one for ships made by Kuat and Sienar. Incidentally, I didn't get an alert from either topic, which is why I'm only responding now. Did I turn the alerts off by accident or something?--Valiran () 23:51, April 17, 2020 (UTC)

Merging

Looking at the pages where you added {{merging}}, I don't think it's necessary. The size of an article is not an issue, however in my opinion, all things should be represented separately on their own pages on a encyclopedia, as their nature and details are different, which make distinct semiotic entities. Different articles means we can't link them separately on articles. Ex: we can't link to two different Telekinesis powers on the same article, since there is only one article with dozens of different telekinetic power... Another issue, but that probably will never concern the SW:GB articles, is that articles about SW content can always expand one day or another. --NanoLuuke 10:43, April 28, 2020 (UTC)

  • Let's make the record straight, I'm not an admin, just an active contributor trying to help as much as he can. One thing we want to make sure is that this kind of change is well thought over. You seems to have the right idea on the subject, and my position was a bit defensive I guess. However, since we're talking about several pages needing the merge, it would be good to discuss it with others members, on the Senate Hall, that way you can list all pages concerned, and administrators will take notice and be able to weight upon it and help you in that regard. Discussing the subject on IRC is also another thing you can do ;) . --NanoLuuke 08:05, April 30, 2020 (UTC)

Signature

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wookieepedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --NanoLuuke 23:14, May 2, 2020 (UTC)

  • I keep forgetting to do that, sorry!--Valiran () 23:22, May 2, 2020 (UTC)

An admin can simply move to the name you intended if you would prefer. MasterFredcerique 23:31, May 2, 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for contributing to Wookieepedia! Please note that at least one of your recent additions added unverified information to a mainspace article. Additions to Wookieepedia's articles must be verifiable by a reliable source per our sourcing policy, and unverified information may be reverted or deleted. Continuing to add unverified information may lead to you being blocked from editing by an administrator. Thank you.--DarthRuiz30 (talk) 01:46, May 10, 2020 (UTC)

Categories

Hello. Please note that cats are preferably sorted in alphabetical order on Wookieepedia, thanks! - - - OOM 224 ༼༽{talk}༼༽ 06:29, May 20, 2020 (UTC)

  • Allow me to clarify the preceding comment: Alphabetical categorization is a requirement, not a preference, of the Wookieepedia Layout Guide. Please go back and properly alphabetize all categories you've added thus far to articles, and please make sure to list them in correct order from here on out. Thank you. Concept art on SWSE Wikia

The images used in the swse wiki which you asked about came from the Vehicles & Vessels pdf file ([1]). I don't know where they came before that, but many images in that file are credited to LucasFilm and LucasArts.--Lukewarner (talk) 11:53, May 22, 2020‎ (UTC)
