The Z-95XT Trainer served as a training variant of the Z-95 Headhunter. Unlike the standard Z-95, it did not include the concussion missile system, but it did feature a second seat to accommodate an occupant, such as a flight instructor. Besides its primary function of training personnel, the Rebel Alliance frequently employed these craft to transport individuals within a star system or between vessels of the same fleet.
The laser weaponry could be configured to simply highlight a target without causing any harm. During a period when Captain Tycho Celchu remained under suspicion of being an Imperial sleeper agent, he was given a Z-95XT equipped with a remote detonator for his training exercises with the reformed Rogue Squadron in the year 6 ABY.
