The AAT Driver Battle Droid represented a dedicated type of B1-Series battle droid specifically engineered to pilot the Armored Assault Tanks (AATs) used by the Confederacy of Independent Systems. These droids were distinguished by dark green markings on their faces and torsos.
Visually, the AAT driver resembled standard B1 battle droids, but they were set apart by their dark green color variations. Functionally, AAT driver battle droids served a role similar to the clone AT-TE commanders, within the Separatist forces, as they were programmed to operate a particular type of vehicle.
During the Republic's Mission to Rugosa, multiple AAT drivers saw action under the command of OOM commander 224. Separatist forces were assigned to eliminate Jedi Master Yoda and the clone trooper contingent accompanying him, with the goal of disrupting the Jedi's attempts to establish a treaty with King Katuunko of Toydaria. This mission was unsuccessful, and several AAT drivers met their end at the hands of the small, but powerful Jedi Master.
