What the Publisher Says

THE GALAXY'S MOST FEARED BOUNTY HUNTER! As JANGO FETT joins a team for what appears to be an easy assignment, his reputation precedes him. Hold on, is that a CHILD with him?! Will Jango and his son, BOBA FETT, be betrayed by his fellow bounty hunters, who would be foolish to do so?

Story in Brief

Tiver, a Chadra-Fan bounty hunter, is inside a cantina on Telerath, complaining about the wealthy fools who assembled her crew, which includes Neelda the Rodian and Rinn the Gand. She finds it insulting and excessive to have Jango Fett as the final member, and she questions why he would accept such a job given that his clients are wealthy enough to be his sole client. Jango then enters the cantina after finishing another task that involved killing a man guarded by two Dowutins. Jango approaches their table with his clone son Boba and is introduced to the crew he will be working with. He makes sure that none of them object to Boba assisting on the job as part of his training. Jango and Boba then depart Telerath aboard the Slave 1, and Boba wonders why they are working with random bounty hunters rather than Cad Bane, Aurra Sing, or Zam Wessel. Jango tells his son that he is already familiar with all of them, and the lesson is the unknown. It has taken him a long time to get to where he is, as reputations must be earned rather than inherited.

Jango meets with a man named Tyrannus some time ago on the Moons of Bogden, who is confident that he will find the Kaminoans' price to be more than reasonable. He will be required to live with the cloners on Kamino when he is not conducting business elsewhere in exchange for access to his genetic template to create a clone army. Jango questions Tyrannus before he leaves as to why he was chosen given that there are numerous other bounty hunters in the galaxy, and Tyrannus informs him that few possess his reputation for both skill and discretion. Jango requests one final wish as compensation when Tyrannus inquires as to how many will have such a legacy as Jango once the Grand Army of the Republic has sprung from him: to have an unaltered clone to call his son.

The group of bounty hunters gathers on Ord Mantell in the present to complete their task and go over the specifics, which included the target's father wanting her back alive and unharmed. The target, a Twi'lek woman, is meeting with a Falleen named Griph on a balcony, and as the two embrace, Griph informs her that he has spoken with his uncle on their behalf, who has connections to the Black Sun Cartel. Boba and Tiver, however, appear behind them and hold them at blaster point before anything can happen. Neelda and Rinn arrive across from them to stop them from escaping, and they persuade Griph to leave peacefully because they aren't after him. The Twi'lek declares that she is not going back and begins to stand on the railing as the bounty hunters surround her on the balcony. She slips off the edge as she tries to back away, seemingly falling to her death, but Jango Fett uses his jetpack to scoop her out of the air before stunning her. Boba inquires as to how his father knew she was going to fall, and he responds that it was always a possibility and that you must trust your instincts on the job because you will learn that desperate people make foolish choices.

Tiver then lunges at Boba, holding a blade to his throat while Rinn points their blaster at Jango, demanding the Twi'lek in exchange for his son. When Neelda declares that they are insane, he too is threatened and will die if he does not assist them. Jango has a flashback to Kamino inside the cloning facilities while considering his next move, where he is shown the clones in training. A Kaminoan believes he should be very proud because not a single unit has fallen below combat parameters, but Jango sees nothing to be proud of because they are merely livestock bred as cannon fodder. Jango is being pressured to make a decision in the present, but to Tiver's surprise, he decides to abandon the situation. Boba knocks Tiver to the ground while she is distracted, pulls a blaster on her, and shoots her dead. Boba disarms Rinn before they can make a move and kills them to ensure a clean kill. Jango inquires of his son what they should do with the Rodian when Neelda begins to compliment Jango and his son, given that he did not appear to be involved in Tiver and Rinn's coup attempt but also did little to stop it. Boba leaves the decision up to his son, who makes Neelda give up his share of the bounty but not his life, so he lets Neelda run away.

The two Fetts leave Ord Mantell aboard the Slave 1 with the Twi'lek target, and Boba explains that he decided to let Needla live so that he could tell other bounty hunters what had happened that day. He wants the entire galaxy to know what happens when they mess with the two of them, and Jango praises his son for establishing his reputation, adding that a father could not ask for a better start to his son's legacy.
