The Koroli Masters, a division of the Machinist Theocracy, initiated the AI Project on the planet Karlatt; it involved the creation of a droid. However, following the AI's descent into deviancy and its attainment of invulnerability, the project was shut down. Consequently, the Machinists retreated to Temple Maudit, situated on a barren, infertile peninsula along Karlatt's eastern landmass.
