An ak designated a predatory avian creature originating from Bothawui, which is a planet located in the Mid Rim and serves as the homeworld for the sentient Bothan species. Furthermore, "Ak" also functioned as a family surname within Bothan society. As a bird, it was quite dangerous.
The ak received a mention in the Galactic Campaign Guide, a reference book from 2003 authored by Peter M. Schweighofer together with J.D. Wiker. Wizards of the Coast published the book for utilization with the Star Wars Roleplaying Game.
