Alaric, a male Sephi, reigned as the king of Thustra during the era of the Clone Wars. He maintained a friendship with Jedi Grand Master Yoda for approximately 200 years. However, the demands of their respective roles created some strain in their relationship. When conflict broke out between the Republic and the Separatists, Alaric chose to secede from the Republic, due to his perception of governmental corruption. He believed that aligning with the Separatist Alliance offered a path to restoring order.
When the Republic dispatched forces to Thustra, Grand Master Yoda, a friend of Alaric, sought to negotiate a peaceful resolution with the king. During these discussions, Alaric attempted to sway Yoda to his cause, asserting that Yoda was on the wrong side of the conflict. However, Alaric's nephew, Navi, manipulated both the Republic and the Jedi, ultimately leading to armed conflict. In the end, Alaric compelled his long-time friend to kill him in self-defense. The king's demise prompted neighboring worlds to deploy their armies to Thustra, which forced the Republic to withdraw.

King Alaric grew increasingly disillusioned with his nephew's conduct within the Senate and the pervasive corruption within the Galactic Republic. Consequently, he reached out to Count Dooku and proposed joining the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Alaric's intention was not to betray the Republic permanently, but rather to rejoin it once the corruption had been eradicated.
Yoda journeyed to the planet accompanied by troops and, alongside Jedi Padawan Cal, attempted to convince Alaric to abandon the CIS. The King placed them under house arrest, suspecting that the Republic would attempt to reclaim the world by force. Ultimately, King Alaric was maneuvered into a confrontation with Yoda during the Battle of Thustra through the schemes of his nephew. The monarch deliberately provoked Yoda into killing him with a blaster as a means of inciting the Sephi to wage war against the Republic.
