The criminal group known as the Alkhara Bandits, sometimes called the Alkharans, operated out of Tatooine.
Following the demise of their founding figure, Alkhara, sometime after 516 BBY, the Alkhara Bandits came into existence. Some years later, this band of robbers resurfaced, now led by several individuals from Tatooine who had been driven from their residences by Sand People.
The Alkhara Bandits frequently clashed with the Tusken Raiders, and they also targeted villages and moisture farms to steal resources. Following the Battle of Yavin, the Galactic Empire became increasingly worried about the Alkhara Bandits' growing influence. General Zaster from the Imperial Second Division issued a formal directive to all Imperial staff on Tatooine, instructing them to augment patrols in the affected regions.
In 1 ABY, Alkharan bandits carried out raids on individuals who were supposedly under the protection of Jabba Desilijic Tiure. The Hutt crime lord was displeased by this and sought to punish the Bandits. Subsequently, Reelo Baruk contracted a spacer to eliminate ten Alkharan bandits.
