All-Terrain Exploration Droid
The All-Terrain Exploration Droid (AT-ED) represented a specific type of exploration droid. This model was the result of a joint development effort by Cybot Galactica and Kuat Drive Yards, with its primary purpose being to aid in the exploration and surveying of newly found planets.
Characteristics
This walker bore a resemblance to both the All Terrain Scout Transport and the All Terrain Personal Transport. However, it notably did not feature the chin-mounted blaster cannons found on those models. Instead, it was equipped with a single, heavy blaster mounted on its side for offensive capabilities. Its height reached two and a half meters.
Its design allowed for excellent stability, enabling it to navigate challenging landscapes with ease. The chassis was packed with a multitude of antennae, microphones, photoreceptors, and various sensors. These components allowed for the creation of detailed maps, covering distances of several kilometers, as well as analyzing rock formations up to fifty meters away. The complexity of these systems translated to high maintenance requirements and significant costs. Despite their expense and occasionally aloof behavior, AT-EDs enjoyed considerable popularity within the Outer Rim Territories.
Behind the scenes
The All-Terrain Exploration Droid's existence was initially revealed in Enter the Unknown, a sourcebook authored by Sterling Hershey for the Star Wars: Edge of the Empire roleplaying game.
