Almar, a planet of tropical climate, could be found within the Almaran system of the Elrood sector. This world boasted beaches, oceans, rain forests, and expansive plains covered in orange grasses. Known as Almar Downside, the planet's economy heavily relied on tourism. A space station in orbit around the planet, called Almar Upside, served as Almar's capital.
Almar was famous as the origin point for Norris roots. Ancient Jedi utilized the dye extracted from these roots to create Norris robes, which offered a degree of defense against attacks based on energy and electricity when saturated with the dye.
Almar was developed with the intention of attracting tourists. Almar Upside was constructed with docking facilities, hotels, bars, and retail establishments, with the expectation that affluent inhabitants of the Elrood sector would frequent it for leisure, entertainment, and spending. However, the Elrood sector did not prosper as initially anticipated, and Almar gained a reputation as a "second-class" planet within the sector. This was largely because it was not situated along the Elrood-Derilyn Trade Route, resulting in reduced traffic.
During the Galactic Empire's invasion and subsequent occupation of Derilyn, the corporation responsible for establishing Almar Upside vanished, and the computer systems containing records of Almar Upside's official ownership were erased. In the years that followed, the Alliance to Restore the Republic gained control of the station, operating it as an apparently autonomous space station while covertly employing it as a surveillance and listening facility targeting Imperial Interdicted Space.
