Alter Environment was a Force ability encompassing diverse methods for influencing the natural world. This allowed for the manifestation of occurrences like Force whirlwinds or obscuring fog, which could be employed offensively or defensively.

Through Alter Environment, temperature control was possible, inducing rapid freezing or generating intense heat capable of causing burns. This power enabled a user to produce widespread electrical discharges, create vacuums, or elevate air pressure to inflict auditory damage. A Force user could also trigger minor seismic events and cracks in the earth, or condense atmospheric moisture to create sudden floods. Furthermore, Alter Environment could exert control over pre-existing natural events. A thunderstorm, for example, could be directed to unleash a concentrated lightning strike, or rain clouds could be compelled to produce heavy rainfall or hail. Turbulent oceans could be manipulated into towering waves or swirling vortices.

The power drew upon the inherent Force energy, or vital essence, within the manipulated object, rather than relying solely on the user's own Force energy. In essence, the user would expend a small portion of their own power to tap into the pre-existing energy. While novices could merely sense the environment, masters could command the elements with ease. This allowed for the creation of destructive waves and lightning storms with minimal exertion and, depending on the energy investment, little fatigue. A deeper understanding of physics provided the user with finer control, a broader range of techniques, and faster execution. However, vigilance was essential to prevent unintended and catastrophic consequences.

Streen and the Sith Emperor were prominent masters of these skills. The Sith Emperor employed this power to degrade the environment of Dromund Kaas. Darth Krayt possessed the ability to govern the weather patterns of an entire planet while in suspended animation.
