Altor-class replenishment ship

The Altor-class replenishment ship functioned as a support vessel within the Imperial forces, specifically designed to transport fuel for other ships serving in the Imperial Navy.

Description

Three Altors among several other large capital ships being serviced at Naval Station Validusia. Sternward drydock modules are visible on the ship to the upper right.

Dimensions

The Altor-class, a sizable model of Imperial supply ship, was equipped with six fuel containers shaped like pills. Furthermore, it featured a minimum of four refueling arms designed to service capital ships. An Altor could simultaneously refuel two ships of battlecruiser or dreadnought size, one on each of its flanks.

Located at the rear of the ship were several hangar and drydock facilities, capable of accommodating capital ships of frigate size for conducting repairs in deep space.

Propulsion systems

A grouping of seven primary thrusters, each surrounded by eight smaller, auxiliary thrusters, propelled the ship through space.

History

At least three ships were part of this class. These ships had the ability to refuel a variety of Imperial warships, such as the Allegiance-class battlecruisers and Assertor-class dreadnoughts. An Altor-class vessel participated in a fleet training exercise sometime after the Arms Race period, where it simultaneously provided fuel to a Star Dreadnought and a battlecruiser of the aforementioned types. Altor ships were known to receive maintenance at Naval Station Validusia located within the Validusia system.

Behind the scenes

Ansel Hsiao's model.

This ship's design began as a fanon creation by Ansel Hsiao. Hsiao's original intention was to design a vessel capable of replenishing either a single ship of similar size to an Executor-class Star Dreadnought, or an entire group of smaller ships. When Lucas Licensing contacted him to supply artwork for The Essential Guide to Warfare, Hsiao submitted both his own designs and new models, along with their respective names. According to the artist, these names were recorded in LFL's Holocron continuity database.
