Altor 14

title: Altor 14

Altor 14 was a planetary body situated within the Zoraster sector. It served as the original homeworld for both the Avogwi and the Nuiwit races. The Galactic Empire eventually brought it under its control through conquest.

History

This planet, situated at the edge of explored space, remained unknown until 15 BBY. It was then that the Rego Mineral Company stumbled upon its rich mineral deposits. Upon landing on the arid surface, representatives of the Company negotiated a contract with the indigenous Nuiwit. The Nuiwit consented to grant access to their mines to the foreign business interests. This arrangement was met with disapproval by the Avogwi, the other native species, who believed it was unwise to relinquish valuable resources to outsiders. The Nuiwit, possessing greater technological advancement, disregarded the Avogwis' concerns and continued to sell contracts, establishing a highly profitable mineral export business.

Society and culture

Due to the planet's high temperatures, both native species structured their societies around the collection and conservation of water. The Avogwi maintained a relatively primitive existence, while the Nuiwit had developed advanced cities and a thriving agricultural system. It was uncommon to encounter members of either species off-world. However, following the planet's discovery, some emigration occurred, with Avogwi often finding employment in criminal activities, while the Nuiwit tended to pursue more legitimate occupations.

Behind the scenes

Altor 14 was first conceived for Galaxy Guide 4: Alien Races, which was initially released in 1989. A revised second edition followed in 1994. Later, it was included on a map depicting the Outer Rim Territories in The Essential Atlas.
