Amphibion

The Amphibion functioned as an aquatic assault vehicle, seeing usage by both the Galactic Empire and, later, the New Republic. It was deployed against the resurrected Emperor Palpatine's military forces during the conflict known as the Battle of Calamari.

Characteristics

These Amphibions were created by SedriMotors Ltd., a company renowned for its expertise in designing aquatic combat vehicles. SedriMotors was also known for implementing unique propulsion systems in their designs. The Amphibion's design was rooted in the XM-21 hydro-skiff.

As a surface hovercraft, the Amphibion employed multiple small, low-noise engines to generate a cushion of air, elevating the vehicle a few centimeters above the water's surface. This system enabled the Amphibion to achieve speeds of up to 100 kilometers per hour across both flat terrain and water. These engines were positioned between armored plating along the bottom and sides of the vehicle, while the propulsion mechanisms were situated at the rear.

The Amphibion's primary function was troop transport; it could accommodate up to 20 soldiers along with their gear, which was stored in compartments located near the command cabin. They frequently operated in formations ranging from 2 to 16 vehicles for mutual support. The command cabin was fortified with blast shielding, protecting the two pilots inside. Aside from the command cabin, the Amphibion's anti-personnel gun turret possessed the most robust protection. A gunner was stationed at the base of the gun turret, but the copilot could also operate it.

The only additional weaponry consisted of the arms brought by the troops. Camouflaged partial armor offered them some protection, but powerful laser blasts could easily penetrate this thin armor. The Amphibion exhibited a reduced thermal and energy signature, and its hover engines operated with significantly less noise compared to standard repulsorlifts, allowing them to navigate past enemy positions undetected. This also decreased the likelihood of detection by enemy scanning equipment.

History

During the battle at Corellia, Amphibions were used to deploy stormtroopers into Coronet City while providing covering fire from the shoreline. In the Battle of Calamari, the New Republic utilized Amphibions to transport Sea Commandos onto the World Devastators.
