Ancient Abyss

The Ancient Abyss, located on the planet of Felucia, was a revered sarlacc pit. It housed the largest sarlacc specimen known within the galaxy. During the era of the Galactic Civil War, a Felucian settlement thrived within the sarlacc's gaping maw, positioned between its teeth and gums, encompassing a four-kilometer circumference. This sarlacc's tendrils possessed immense strength, capable of pulling sizable creatures like rancors directly into its digestive system.

History

For a considerable duration preceding the arrival of Jedi Master Shaak Ti, the indigenous Felucians utilized the Pit as a site for ritual sacrifices.

Upon discovering that Starkiller, Darth Vader's assassin, had landed on Felucia with the intent to kill her, Shaak Ti journeyed to the Ancient Abyss. There, she engaged in a confrontation with the aspiring Sith apprentice. In the midst of their battle, one of the massive sarlacc's tentacles seized Shaak Ti's rancor mount, dragging the beast into the sarlacc's mouth, where it met its end. Shaak Ti attempted to weaponize the enormous sarlacc against Starkiller; however, her efforts were unsuccessful, and he emerged victorious. Injured, she warned Starkiller about the inevitable treachery among the Sith, before deliberately plunging into the sarlacc's maw.

The Ancient Abyss placed under Imperial control.

Following Shaak Ti's demise, darkness enveloped Felucia. Under the sway of Maris Brood, Ti's former Padawan, the Felucian tribes descended into savagery. Subsequently, the Galactic Empire invaded and seized control of the planet, initiating a campaign to eradicate the Felucian species. Many Felucians sought refuge within the sarlacc, prompting the Empire to construct a stabilizing device. This device pinned the creature down, enabling entry into its maw, while simultaneously restraining its tendrils and extracting its teeth.

When Starkiller returned to Felucia in search of Senator Bail Organa, he sensed the sarlacc's agony and released it from its restraints. He then utilized the stabilizer's lift to explore the interior of the creature in his search for Organa, before being ejected from one of its lungs.
