Anglebay Station

Anglebay Station, situated on the Outer Rim world of Telos IV, functioned as a neutral and independent medical facility. During the Galactic Civil War, Anglebay Station extended its medical aid to members of both the Galactic Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic. In 17 BBY, during the Kwymar Suppressions that occurred in Telos' home sector, Anglebay Station received Imperial casualties, one of whom was Beilert Valance, a stormtrooper commander severely injured on Doniphon. It was at Anglebay Station that Valance underwent cybernetic augmentation, a process that terminated his military career and initiated his path as a bounty hunter. In 0 ABY, consumed by a hatred of his mechanical enhancements to the point of near insanity, Valance orchestrated an attack on Anglebay Station, resulting in the massacre of everyone present and the complete annihilation of the medical facility.

Description

During the Galactic Civil War, Anglebay Station, a solitary medical installation on the Outer Rim planet of Telos IV, gained recognition for its impartiality, delivering medical care to members of the Galactic Empire, the Alliance to Restore the Republic, and unaffiliated individuals. The station's staff included a significant number of droids along with a considerable number of organic employees. Anglebay Station featured in-patient bays for recuperating patients, accompanied by a comprehensive computer system that maintained records of every patient treated at the facility. In the early years of the Imperial Era, bacta treatments at Anglebay Station were often allocated based on a patient's rank and predicted recovery. When patients with serious injuries were not prioritized for bacta treatment, Anglebay Station was known to perform surgical procedures that incorporated cybernetic components.

History

Anglebay Station, operational during the Galactic Civil War, provided medical assistance to anyone in need, irrespective of their allegiance, be they Imperial soldiers or Rebel fighters. In 17 BBY, a young stormtrooper commander named Beilert Valance was among those treated; he had sustained critical injuries during an Imperial assault on a Rebel base on Doniphon. As Doniphon and Telos IV were located in the same sector, Valance was transported to Anglebay Station for medical attention. Suffering from injuries caused by a torpedo blast, Valance was admitted to Anglebay Station with extensive blast and burn injuries to his head and torso, and his chances of survival were deemed slim. Given that bacta resources were reserved for higher-ranking officers, Valance instead underwent surgery to replace his damaged body parts with cybernetics. Awakening more than 11 days later, Valance was horrified to discover he had become a cyborg. While he eventually recovered enough to leave the hospital, his career in the Imperial Military was finished.

Seventeen years later, Valance returned to Anglebay Station transformed. The former Imperial officer, now a dangerously unstable bounty hunter leading a motley crew across the Outer Rim, harbored a deep resentment towards his cybernetic enhancements. Since leaving Anglebay Station, Valance had concealed his cybernetic components, and in 0 ABY, he resolved to erase his past for good. To accomplish this, Valance instructed his crew to attack and completely destroy Anglebay Station, leaving no one alive. Although his men were killers, this act of wanton slaughter gave many of them pause until Valance assured them they would be very well compensated. Once his gang was on-board, Valance led his men in a destructive raid on Anglebay Station, indiscriminately murdering whoever they came across.

While one group of his men focused on killing everyone in the facility, with particular malice reserved towards Anglebay Station's droid population, Valance moved on to his main objective, the station's computer records. Once there, Valance and several of his thugs completely destroyed the station's archives, erasing all trace of his treatment there more than a decade before. Meanwhile, the other group of raiders—led by Valance's Hutlarian second-in-command Slssk—swept through the in-patient bays, butchering the patients, doctors and staff they found within. However, Slssk and fellow hunter Remel Fud by chance overheard an interesting piece of information from a senile elderly man in one of the in-patient bays: the bedridden man's ramblings linked a Lepi smuggler named Jaxxon to wanted Rebel fugitive Han Solo and a mysterious "farmboy" who had become Valance's obsession. After reporting this to Valance, the crew sped off to track Jaxxon down, obliterating Anglebay Station with proton charges as they departed.

Behind the scenes

Anglebay Station made its debut in Star Wars (1977) 16, penned by Archie Goodwin and published in 1978, although it was not named in its initial appearance. The station remained unnamed until 2004, when Jason Fry gave it the designation "Anglebay Station" for the Star Wars Miniatures scenario titled Mission 2: Destroying the Past.
