During the Battle of Sarrish, battle droids can be seen operating an anti-aircraft weapon. Anti-craft turrets, also called anti-aircraft artillery or anti-aircraft guns, were artillery positions deployed on battle zones, for example, Mygeeto, with the purpose of eliminating aerial threats in the surrounding area. They proved particularly valuable when defending landing zones. The term triple-A was a slang term used by Clone troopers within the Grand Army of the Republic when referring to anti-aircraft artillery during the Clone Wars.
Early in the Clone Wars, an AA gun offered defense for a Lucrehulk-class core ship. Delta Squad's clone commandos took out the AA gun, before moving on to disable the core ship. During the Battle of Bespin, multiple AA guns were situated on platforms. The Bespin variant was used to destroy approaching Confederacy of Independent Systems Vulture droids and MAF gunships, until battle droids commandeered them and turned them against Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptors and LAAT/is.
During the Battle of Utapau, they were also deployed against the 212th Attack Battalion and the 501st Legion. Two were mounted at the main hangar bay entrance of Unlimited Projection, primarily targeting LAAT/i gunships attempting to land reinforcements and aid in defeating the battle droid forces stationed within. Members of the 501st Legion destroyed the hangar's AA guns, and Obi-Wan Kenobi disabled two additional turrets by sabotaging their control systems.
AA turrets were also prevalent during the Galactic Civil War, with both the Rebels and the Empire employing them to eliminate aerial vehicles. Numerous other factions, such as the Hutt Cartel, also utilized AA weaponry. The Empire took advantage of AA's benefits with their AT-AA.
