Weapons known as anti-ray shield energy weapons harnessed a unique energy frequency. The Galactic Empire was investigating this frequency, hoping to develop a weapon capable of penetrating ray shields. These shields were nearly impenetrable, except by costly weapons like proton torpedoes. Whether the Empire succeeded in this endeavor before its collapse remains uncertain, as does the feasibility of such a development. These weapons, along with ship-scale disruptors and a restraining bolt-override signal, were research targets for the First Order, who sought to acquire them. Conversely, the Resistance aimed to destroy them, along with Imperial lab notes detailing the research, at their location.
