The narrative of Appetite for Adventure centers around Dexter Jettster, the chef, as he embarks on a perilous quest to the planet Dractu. His objective is to acquire a Dractuvian cave slug so he can prepare a unique dish for his Jedi companion, Obi-Wan Kenobi.
During the period of the Clone Wars conflict between the Republic and the Separatists, a modest spaceship touches down on the surface of the planet Dractu. From this vessel emerges Dexter Jettster, the Besalisk chef, with a specific purpose in mind. Jettster makes his way to a nearby settlement in order to enlist the aid of the primitive, yet sentient, Dractuvian inhabitants. Following a consultation with the village's leader, conducted through the use of gestures, the elder instructs one of the warriors to guide Jettster to a particular location, and the pair set off together.
The warrior leads Jettster away from the village, and as they traverse an area characterized by towering, thorny trees, the Besalisk cook pauses to take a brief rest, leaning against one of the trees. However, his guide signals for him to look upwards, at which point Jettster realizes that he is not leaning against a tree at all, but rather against one of the limbs of a massive, insectoid creature. Startled, Jettster and his guide flee, pursued by the enormous beast, which intends to devour them. After a brief pursuit, Jettster and the warrior manage to evade the creature by concealing themselves behind a cluster of sizable rocks. Relieved to have escaped the beast, Jettster fails to notice that he has become trapped in a pool of quicksand and is sinking rapidly, until more than half of his body is submerged. The warrior retrieves a long vine from a nearby tree, and after handing one end to Jettster, calmly proceeds to a nearby field where an animal is grazing. After attaching the other end of the vine to the animal's hind legs, the warrior strikes the animal, causing it to bolt forward and pull the vine taut. Back at the quicksand pit, Jettster, now completely submerged but still clinging to the vine, is catapulted out of the quicksand when the vine is yanked. Dazed, Jettster and his guide continue their journey to their destination: a cave.
Upon entering the cave, they discover numerous holes in the wall. The warrior reaches into one of these holes and extracts a Dractuvian cave slug, which is the object of Jettster's quest. Jettster cautiously reaches into another hole, hoping to retrieve a slug for himself, but instead pulls out a more aggressive Dractuvian caveworm, which bites down on the Besalisk's prominent chin. While Jettster panics, the Dractuvian warrior manages to dislodge the worm, causing the cook to fall to the ground. Although stunned, Jettster is delighted to find several cave slugs wriggling on the ground, and after placing several of them into a container he had brought along, he and the warrior return to the Dractuvian village.
After bidding farewell to the Dractuvians, Jettster boards his ship and departs for his diner located on the planet Coruscant. In the diner's kitchen, Jettster prepares one of the cave slugs for a meal, boiling and chopping it into pieces. Jettster emerges from the kitchen and approaches his close friend, the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi, informing him that he has prepared a special dinner for him. Kenobi is taken aback to see that Jettster has made Dractuvian cave slug, and after sampling the dish, he remarks with a smile that it is as unpleasant as he remembers. Jettster is confused, reminding Kenobi that he had previously declared that cave slug was the best thing he had eaten on Dractu. Kenobi simply responds that Dractu has the worst food in the galaxy, implying that Jettster undertook a dangerous expedition solely to prepare a meal that his friend detests.
