An armor platoon represented a unit within the Imperial Army.
Typically, armor platoons consisted of a complement ranging from thirty-four to forty-two soldiers. These personnel were distributed among either four heavily armored vehicles—each operated by a crew of four to five individuals—or eight vehicles of medium or light armor, each manned by a crew of three. A command vehicle, generally a medium-class vehicle enhanced with a secondary gun cupola housing a heavy repeating blaster, was also usually included. The configuration utilizing heavy vehicles was the more frequently encountered setup.
Additionally, armor platoons contained two heavy transport vehicles that served to transport replacement components and supplies for the platoon's needs. Each HTV was operated by a team of three, who also functioned as mechanics, along with a team of four technicians. These technicians possessed in-depth knowledge of the functionality of each vehicle they maintained, with each technician specializing in a particular area: armaments, armor upkeep, control systems, and engine/power delivery. The vehicles making up an armor platoon were often repulsorlift tanks, though certain groups made use of walkers or other kinds of heavy vehicles. The purpose of walkers was to provide armor platoons with a heavy assault vehicle choice that did not rely on repulsorlift technology.
A platoon consisting of four All Terrain Armored Transports could be deployed to combat zones by utilizing Warlord Dropships manufactured by Telgorn Corporation or Y-85 Titan dropships produced by Incom Corporation.
