During the Galactic Civil War, which pitted the Galactic Empire against the Alliance to Restore the Republic, Arnod flew as a TIE pilot within the Navy of the Empire. By the year 3 ABY, he was assigned to the Imperial Death Squadron, commanding a group of at least three other pilots in TIE/LN starfighters.
The Battle of Hoth occurred in 3 ABY, resulting in an Imperial victory and forcing the Alliance to evacuate their headquarters located on the planet Hoth. Following the escape of the Alliance's YT-1300 light freighter Millennium Falcon from Hoth, Arnod's squadron of TIE/LN starfighters joined the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer Avenger in pursuit through the Hoth system.
While pursuing the Falcon, Arnod's flight trailed the freighter as it entered the Hoth asteroid field in an attempt to shake off the TIE/LN starfighters. During this chase, Arnod and his fellow TIE pilots met their deaths when their starfighters collided with asteroids.
Arnod's starfighter was originally conceived for the original trilogy film Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back in 1980, which premiered on May 21 of that year. The starfighter's initial appearance predates the film, debuting simultaneously in The Empire Strikes Back Storybook and the film's novelization, both released on April 12 of the same year. The pilot's name was first revealed in 1990 within "Dark Voyage to Tatooine," a story featured in Galaxy Guide 5: Return of the Jedi, a sourcebook by West End Games authored by Michael Stern.
