Arrochar

Arrochar, situated on the fringe of Hutt Space in proximity to Mon Calamari, was a planet governed by a traditional monarchy. For a considerable duration, it existed outside the sphere of central galactic the Galaxy affairs, maintaining a secluded existence, a characteristic its inhabitants valued. Approaching the time of the Battle of Yavin, the planet's royal family expressed a strong desire to integrate into a "Community of Planets," viewing the Rebellion as a means to realize this ambition. Consequently, during the first year after the battle, Arrochar's crown prince extended an offer of sanctuary to the Rebel Alliance, contingent upon receiving the hand of Princess Leia Organa's in marriage.

Description

The Landscape of Arrochar

Arrochar was a world positioned within a modest system, closely bordering Hutt Space, Mon Calamari, and the Tion Cluster. Its surface was characterized by extensive water bodies and numerous continents. The planet's terrain was notably mountainous, featuring various canyons, with a significant portion of its infrastructure constructed along the mountainsides. Abundant in natural resources, Arrochar hosted several mining operations, including a site rich in nickel and iron that the Rebel Alliance utilized as a base.

History

Arrochar had a long-standing tradition of seclusion, with its cultural roots stretching back at least a millennium to the era of the Galactic Civil War. However, in the initial year following the Battle of Yavin IV, the planet aligned itself with the Rebel Alliance when its prince proposed his homeworld as a rebel base in exchange for marrying Leia.

While arrangements for joining the Rebellion were underway, certain Arrocharians simultaneously explored the possibility of joining the Empire, believing their people would receive greater respect than from the Alliance. A highly experienced generals on the planet disclosed the location of the newly established Rebel base, situated at a mining site, and orchestrated an Imperial assault to coincide with Kaspar and Leia's planned wedding.

Before the ceremony could commence, the plotting general remotely detonated a bomb, causing a section of the palace's north wing to explode. Arrocharian soldiers then took control of the palace, establishing a defensive perimeter and isolating both citizens and rebels. Concurrent with this ground coup, three Imperial Star Destroyers prepared for an orbital bombardment targeting both the rebel base and the Arrocharian palace. Mon Mothma issued orders for the immediate evacuation of all Rebel personnel from the planet and activated the ion cannons erected around the rebel settlement. These actions disabled the Star Destroyers, ensuring the Alliance's escape, while leaving behind the severely damaged palace, the unmarried prince, and the planet itself.

Society

The Royal Guard

Arrochar was inhabited by a proud human population, governed by a traditional monarchy. Arrocharian culture was steeped in formalities, particularly those involving royalty. For instance, diplomatic meetings on a foreign space ship required the host party to send a shuttle escorted by their personnel. Royal marriages necessitated the consort's formal presentation to the planet's rulers and people in a lavish ceremony.

The planet maintained distinct military divisions, namely the Mountain Rangers and the Royal Guard. The Rangers were responsible for patrolling the planet's mountainous regions and safeguarding its defenses. Commanded by generals, their duties were traditionally passed down through families for at least a thousand years prior to the Battle of Yavin. The Arrochar Royal Guard was tasked with securing the royal palace, the royal family, and Arrocharian nobles. They wore ornate uniforms and wielded metallic spears and shields.

The Rebel's settlement

Situated in one of the planet's numerous valleys, the Royal Palace was a substantial stone castle adorned with turquoise tiles. It featured several large rooms capable of accommodating hundreds of citizens for ceremonies. The palace's interior was exceptionally opulent, decorated with numerous statues and paintings along its corridors. The castle was adjoined by a graveyard containing mausoleums and statues, as well as a spacious courtyard suitable for hosting festivities for several hundred people.

Rebel Base

The Rebel Base was located at an abandoned mining site in Arrochar's equatorial region. Spanning seventeen square kilometers, the area exhibited a high concentration of ferrous ore, effectively disrupting standard scanners.

Behind the scenes

Arrochar's initial appearance occurred in the twelfth issue of Dark Horse's comic series Star Wars, released on December 11, 2013. Carlos D'Anda provided the pencil work, though his contribution was limited to a single panel depicting Arrochar from orbit. In the subsequent four appearances within the series, Stéphane Créty illustrated the planet's surface. The narrative surrounding the Rebellion's establishment on Arrochar forms the central plot of the Rebel Girl story arc.
